2020 was a wild and rough year, but it was also a very important year for video games. We got really iconic games, next gen PC gaming systems and consoles, and new GPUs from AMD and NVIDIA. Best of all, though, video games helped us experience new worlds when we were stuck in our homes and connect with friends when we couldn’t see them.
So, here are the best video games the last year gave us:
Ghost of Tsushima
There are so many things we enjoyed about this game, not least its stunning graphics, engaging and challenging gameplay, realistic characters and interesting multiplayer modes. Even the game score is refreshingly soulful and sentimental.
The game follows Jin Sakai’s quest to force the oppressive Mongol army out of his homeland while he simultaneously wages an internal battle to come to terms with his own insecurities.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Judging by how this game manages to thrill and surprise at every turn, it’s almost hard to imagine that this is actually the thirteenth episode of the game. Ubisoft deserves all the acclaim they can get for managing to keep this franchise relevant in the crowded world of open world gaming.
Players get to explore a vast world, a world that combines the slightly surreal ambience of 5th-century England with mystic contortions of Norse mythology while unearthing a multitude of strange stories.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Going back for a second bite at a vastly successful project is dangerous business but the best thing that can be said is about this game is that it actually managed to live up to expectations while delivering its own unforgettable twist.
Square Enix’s successful approach to the recreation of this classic title was to capture the essence and spirt of the original game while delivering the story in such a way that it doesn’t feel rehashed, with the use of modern game design.
